Form for Club Details

Some not so wonderful news from the British Crown Green.

Some genius there has decided that they should have a database (I assume someone there does actually know what a database is...) of ALL playing and social members of EVERY BOWLS CLUB IN THE COUNTRY.

Part of the reason is that they have realised that many players have multiple BCG numbers since replacements for lost cards automatically get a new number. (don’t ask). They also would like to keep tabs on young players in terms of entries into Junior comps. These matters, are of course, of absolutely vital importance.

That the whole scheme will become as unwieldy as it is now after a year or so does not seem to have occurred to anyone there, unless it is maintained with nitpicking accuracy

Every club will receive, or can get from the website, (or I will send you one by email) a form on which to list all your members. You will ask...why can’t I simply send them what I have?

There are a number of reasons.

1. My list is NEVER completely accurate (for all sorts of reasons), although I admit that it should be.

2. They want social members.

3. They want age profiles

4. They want actual Date of Birth for Junior players.

So each Club Sec will have to do it. (*They did in Ron’s days anyway *)

As well, it is a good opportunity for me to get my lists accurate for once, when you send me a copy of the list for BCG.!!

I’ll say something on this at the AGM, but this is what I picked up from the Management Meeting at Cheshire on Tuesday 10 Jan.

See the website of the British Crown Green Bowling Association for the required forms.

Also. I mentioned some weeks ago that we have a small sponsorship agreement. The little box to bottom right of the Home page is a link to the Sponsor’s website. Click on this, and the web site will open up in a new tab window. To get back to Chester League, simply close the new tab. This will be on your browser tabs bar to the top of the screen

I hope every club has now familiarised members with the Agenda for the AGM.

I’ve had no complaints about using the website to distribute these, so I take it that there is general  approval at saving postage....at least 47 p per letter !

I also placed on the site a form for printing out, for Club details to be sent to me as soon as possible. As everyone knows, the deadline is the copy for the handbook. I hope to send draft copy to the printers by the end of Feb –no later. However please use email to save your own postage if you choose.

To recap....I need the stuff which appeared in last year’s booklet....

Secretary's name and address. Phone and mobile

Team Capt(s) phone and mobile (no address needed)

Also entry yes/no to Round Robin.

Team regs can wait until later. But please remember that the Eldridge Cup Squads should be with Lesley BEFORE the season starts, ideally. (Note : Members have requested that adjustments to the EC handicaps could make the comp a bit more fair. This can only be done if Lesley has the squad names WELL BEFORE the first round.)

And of course, any comps which you wish to appear in the handbook.

21 Jan. The BCGBA web site reports the rule changes at this year’s meeting at Winnington Park. The proposal to adopt a BCGBA Dress Code rule for ALL open competitions was not carried. The motion, proposed by Cheshire, seconded by Wales actually received a majority of 47 vote to 41 with 2 abstentions. Fortunately the rule change requires a 2.3 majority - hence the motion failed.

Although this was mentioned at our AGM, I am still interested in the views of Chester League clubs on this. Please drop me a brief email to let me know what your club’s view is. I didn’t ask for this at the AGM since, had the proposal been adopted today, there would have been no point.

AGM 2012 Minutes

Bowlers’ membership cards

All bowlers playing in competitions organised by Cheshire CBA or in any of the affiliated leagues are required to hold life membership of the BCGBA and of Cheshire CBA. The membership cards can be obtained from the County Registrar:

Mr John Small

17 Farriers Way

Winsford

CW7 2TS

He can also be contacted via the Cheshire County website.

Applications should enclose the fee (£6 for BCGBA membership and £3 for Cheshire membership). If you are applying only for Cheshire membership (e.g. if you have a BCGBA card via another county), please enclose a stamped addressed envelope. New members of BCGBA receive a Welcome Pack, which won’t fit in a small envelope.

Eldridge Cup handicaps.

It has been suggested that the old system of reviewing the Eldridge Cup handicaps be instigated. It is still in the Constitution that the Council has this power. So we intend to do this for the 2012 season.

However. It is clear that we cannot review the handicaps once the competition has started. This means that, to give us time to convene a meeting for that purpose, we MUST have the all the Eldridge Cup squads(9 players) in good time.  Lesley will include her usual competition details, including requests for this information, when the handbooks are distributed. But please do not treat this as the date to send. It should be possible for clubs and teams to let her know their squads well before the season starts.

To get this idea implemented again, I ask all clubs to try to do this. We will then try to do our best with the handicaps.

Peter, 20 Feb.
